In a heart-wrenching incident, two male engineering students from Copperbelt University (CBU) lost their lives when a speeding Hilux vehicle collided with them as they were leaving campus for their boarding house. 😢 The accident occurred late last evening, leaving the university community in shock and mourning. 😔

Thabo Mumbi, a third-year student, tragically lost his life on the spot, while Bwalya Christian Henscel, a second-year student, succumbed to his injuries shortly after reaching the hospital. The news of their untimely demise has been confirmed by Castro Mulilo, the President of the CBU Students Union, who expressed his condolences in an official statement. 🙏

Mulilo further revealed that a third student involved in the accident survived with minor injuries. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM when the trio was walking from the campus through the east gate towards their boarding house in Nkana East. The speeding vehicle, driven by a 26-year-old woman named Esther Mponda, lost control and collided with the students who were walking on the opposite side of the road. 😥

In his statement, Mulilo expressed deep sadness, stating, “Tragically, Thabo Mumbi lost his life at the scene of the accident, and Bwalya Christian Henschel passed away a few minutes after being rushed to Kitwe Teaching Hospital.” 😭

The bodies of the deceased students have been taken to the mortuary at Kitwe Teaching Hospital, adding to the somber atmosphere on campus. As a result of this devastating incident, Mulilo declared, “In light of this tragic event, all classes and tests at CBU will be suspended until further notice.” 🚫📚

The entire Copperbelt University community is in mourning, grappling with the loss of these promising young individuals.
